Japanese Paleography Workshop:
Looking at Picture scrolls (emaki) and manuscript books (Nara ehon…)
The Department of Manuscripts of the Bibliothèque nationale de France, together with the Centre d’études japonaises (CEJ / INALCO) and the Centre de recherches sur les civilisations de l’Asie orientale (CRCAO, UMR 8155), is pleased to announce a workshop in Japanese paleography (hentaigana and kuzushiji), specifically focused on picture scrolls of various periods (particularly Muromachi and Edo). This Workshop is part of a three year 2010-2012 Research Programm at the BnF, untitled “Narrative manuscripts of the Edo Period in the Department of Manuscripts and in the French public collections”. The organization of this Workshop has been financed by this Research Programm.
